Fresh fruit in a vending machine.

I keep hearing that they want to start putting veggies and fruit in vending machines in American junior high schools. They're way ahead of the trend here in Japan.
For just 100 to 200-yen you can buy a bag of fresh mikans. We had already bought some from a farmer's market up the road when we came across this machine, so I can't vouch for the quality. They looked really good though. There was an honor stand up the road as well.

I would love to see this in my neighborhood. The prices are better than I get at the cheap green grocer!

Of course, in the U.S., they sell fruit in vending machines already, but it tends to be only one piece and be rather expensive.

I love all of the fresh produce around here, but it's a trade-off for all of the weird stuff you get up there!

We had one of those vending machines in our school but it wasn't popular so they replaced it with another soda machine... :s too bad :(

I remember fruit and sandwich vending machines. They were cool because the contents were on shelves that rotated around to the sliding door that would open when you had paid.

Of course being able to buy a whole bag of mikan is really really cool. I'd be hitting that machine every other day.
